A new set of aftermarket LCAs will eliminate about 80-90% of the wheel hop, and they cost much less than custom shocks. Add on a new UCA and your wheel hop will be gone completely. The whole deal will only cost about $500.

Evolution Performance has some great products for your suspension. I'm going to be getting the Ultimate Lowering Package this winter.

I would love to agree with you but I can't.

Two reasons . . .

1) I already had upgraded Lower and Upper control arms and it didn't help at all. It was the first thing I did based upon the recommendation of a local tuner shop. Ironically, I wasn't convinced it was the problem and of course, I now know it wasn't.

2) The car comes equipped with perfectly adequate UCA's and LCA's from the factory for a basically stock GT500. Clearly, they are not as good as the Evolution stuff but the factory arms will keep the axle properly positioned and prevent 'windup'. It's was the shocks that stopped the hop.

Lastly, I see from your post that you have more power than I. I am only speaking from my perspective and my car.

Anyway . . . I actually recommend doing it all. The look of the trailing arms is worth the price of admission!

While I'm sure Penske are very High Quality, IMO $600 a piece for shocks is unrealistic unless your racing the car. QA1's and Tokico D-spec have proven you can get all the performance you'll need at a fraction of the cost.

To each his own. . .

I've used Penske before. My 1st experience was when I replaced the QA1's on the '65 Mustang resto-mod shown in my Avatar. I was very disappointed in the QA1's. I've been a Penske believer ever since.

You could also ask them about the non adjustables or maybe their other brand (Axis ?). Both would cost less money.

Randy

ps: Being a purist, I would have a hard time time putting Tokico shocks on my American Muscle car!

. . .(and yes, I know they are made in Kentucky)

I'm sure they are a great mod and I will have to put something on mine to get it to hook up but it's would be hard to swallow $1200 for 2 shocks.

Here is a video of mine at Gainesville Fl. The DA was reading 3600' and overcast with rain only a couple minutes behind this run. I had a 275/40-17 ET Streets on and had zero traction out of the hole and no wheel hop.

Very nice . . . your car is the same color combo as mine.

It sounds like your car spun the tires for almost the entire run! Once you lost traction like you did, you would not expect any wheel hop. It's the tire bite that creates the hop.

One of the things you will find with better shocks is the weight transfer to the rear wheels will be more controlled. With a little work and playing with adjustment you could shave your ET's quite a bid. You want the weight to transfer to the rear for traction. The better you control that transfer the faster you will go.

Traction

Pesnke does have a cheaper option available. It is a non-adjustable steel body, the set is about $500. This does come with the same internals as our other racing dampers.

Wow. I'm really surprised to here this. I've talked to literally dozens of people who have completely eliminated wheel hop with new LCAs and UCAs.

I'm glad you found a solution.

One other fact that could have an effect . . . I still have the factory Goodyears. They are very hard and the traction really s****. When the tires are cold they instantly spin up with NO hop. As they start to heat up and gain grip, that's when the hop would start.

I'm getting ready to replace the wheels and tires (on order, Fikse's and Toyos) and I know with the stickier tires the problem would have been worse. I'll report in when they show up (still about 2 weeks away) and let you know how it turns out.

Anyway . . . problem currently solved.

Randy

I have to agree with you on the stock tire comments. I took Shelby out for a drive on a cool evening the other night. I accelerated in a "spirited" manner onto the main road. Nothing different than what I've done tons of times. But this time, because of the cool temps, she broke loose and the a$$ end came around in a hurry. 40 mph and sideways on a major thoroughfare is enough to get your heart pumping. I was able to bring her back around, but it sure did give me a fright. (I must admit it was kinda fun too)

Make sure you post some pics when your baby gets new shoes!
